Give examples of false images, pictures, and expectations that we have of him. 5. What does it mean to "deny yourself and take up the cross"? Are there regular moments when you sense the call for self-denial? How successful are you in denying yourself in those situations? What causes you the most difficulty? 6. This gospel was written, at least in part, for Christians who were undergoing severe persecution. How would these words of Jesus give courage, hope and comfort to them?
